a {craft} room of one's own.

Greetings! Sorry I'm so lame lately.

Hopefully this will make up for it.

I've been needing to do something about our dining room for a while. Previously it served as pantry storage, computer desk area, and where the dining table was... with one chair... that was only used as table-top storage.

And then I had this other problem - it's hard for me to do anything artsy or crafty unless I have some place to be inspired or creative in. Thus - my genius idea.

Transform the dining room into my craft room!

We are an "eat in front of the tv" home (not what I want forever, but this is us for now), and the dining room was just sucking away precious space in our small apartment.

A day off ended up being a day of work anyway...but the fun kind :  )

Anyone need a round dining table?

a wedding shower.

This past Sunday I hosted a wedding shower for my friend Shannon, with the lovely ladies of PUMP at the Russell home. I love parties and decorating and planning things so when the opportunity presents itself I will take whatever I can and go with it!

We had a dessert table and hot chocolate bar, and a few healthy options too. We played a couple games, showered Shannon with advice and gifts, and got our sweets fix in for the month!

Not too shabby for a Sunday afternoon.

THIS was my main inspiration. I loved the "rain" theme.

And here's how the shower turned out!

motivation.

I had a hint of it today.

It led me to clean the living room & vacuum, wash the dishes, and organize a big craft drawer which desperately needed it. Which brings me to the next part. I found this old 12x12 wooden frame thing from over a year ago that I suddenly HAD to do something with. I saw on Pinterest a way to make "modge podge", which turned out to really just be a type of collage glue... so that's what I made to complete my frame project.

Basically I just mixed some (Rose Art- bleck!!) school glue, some Tacky glue and water in an old peanut butter jar and shook it. It got the job done... still a little watery for anything but thinner paper. (The majority of what I used was oragami paper.) I forgot to take a 'before' photo (how typical!) but here's the result!

An homage to our Honeymoon :)
(And yes, it found its way to the bathroom. It coordinated well and I'm pretty much out of wall space everywhere else...)

Happy Crafting!

the best way to spread christmas cheer...

...is singing loud for all to hear!

...and also making your husby take Christmas photos with you.

We'll catch up soon,

I promise.

Until then,
I leave you with these...

eleven.

I feel I have waited so long for this day. Did you all make the biggest wish ever? The OCD in me just eats things like this up! What did you do on this once in a lifetime day? I thought we were going to a play that our friend is directing, but that got moved to tomorrow. So today, we went to go get Spencer Skyrim, which he's been lusting after for far too long...and he did finish this daunting assignment for Old Testament so I guess this was his "reward". (Seriously, 40+ pages with 10pt. font. Yikes. And that was just Gen.-Deut.). I also got some craft supplies at Joann (which should be Joann'S, but whatever), just some more paper and Christmas cut out things - oh, and another craft stick (giant glue stick). Man I love that thing.

I have made a commitment to make Christmas gifts this year (to stretch my creativity and we are very poor these days (so why not buy a video game, right? He exchanged debit reward points so I let it slide...). I am attempting to make as many things as possible with paint samples! I would post some photos, but they are gifts so those photos have to wait till post-Christmas. Okay...here's something I did. I got the idea from Pinterest! I actually did something I pinned! It's a paint sample calendar in a frame - you write on the glass and viola! White board calendar. I'm excited. Oh- and I got dry erase pens at Joann.

Also, my good friend's mom gave me her wonderful recipe for her pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (drooling yet?) and tonight I had the courage to give it a try! I think they turned out well. After making a whole plateful I froze the rest of the dough for Thanksgiving - no need to eat all those cookies by ourselves.

Last, but certainly not least, let us remember that it is Veteran's Day.
Thank you to all those who serve and have served, though words are not enough.

sew cute!

So, now that I have given the gift, I can tell you what I made for my friend Savannah. She passed her nurse test and I had some sewing kits I had been collecting from hotels and whatnot . . . sew (sorry, I had to) I decided to make her a mason jar pin cushion/sewing kit. Because, she too, loves a good mason jar.

Putting the pin cushion together was the hardest part; for the most part I just made it up. Basically, I hot glued some felt to the inner top rim of the lid ring, stuffed it with some pillow stuffing & then hot glued the flat part of the lid on. Much harder than it seems. You have to get it reeeeally tight so there is still room for the lid to screw on. Then I hot glued matching felt & fun buttons to the bottom of the flat part of the lid.
Apparently I didn't need the sealer part of the lid, some cardboard would have sufficed. Oh well. Here's an easy to follow tutorial if mine is confusing : )

Some of the goodies : ) the mini set in the middle is from a hotel - snag them when you can!

Some more sewing kit necessities. Can you tell what these pins are in? It's...
... a little match box! Glue some cute paper on and you're good to go! (I had this fabulous sewing paper - how could I not use it!?)
Grey. Always a classic color option.

I added some curling ribbon to the top of the jar... just because : )
The whole little package : ) I added the flower to help ease the shaking of contents inside.
I had to make use of this cute paper as much as I could!

My little signature. Since for 23 years of life it was my name :)
I need to expand my collection of jars and sewing kits so I can make more of these! And I encourage you to do the same!

periodicals.

Well, I knew the time would come.

Time to dust off the magazines and give them a new purpose!

Also, I've been spending all my time on Follow Me on Pinterest. I am obsessed. It is a virtual inspiration board! What more could one ask for!?

Also, I spent all weekend at my first real Pow Wow. You know, Indians and stuff? Well, it was fun and all but MAN it is DANG HOT in central California. I do not like it one bit. More about my Pow Wow hangover in a later post.

Until then,
